DIY holiday hot cocoa in a jar!

yum yum!! :)

heres a fun do-it-yourself project that i've been making as gifts for christmas. i love crafty projects and this holiday hot cocoa mix is a fun, simple treat that makes a great gift! learn how to make it after the jump...

so i love love love hot cocoa during the winter time (especially since i havent been able to drink coffee as much i substitute hot cocoa for it).  and my all time favorite hot cocoa flavor hands down is peppermint.  it really brings that holiday feel to the winter and just makes me feel happy inside (okay that was corny haha).  anyways i came up with the idea of making my favorite winter drink into a mix that i could give to friends and family for christmas.  now that i'm so close to having the baby (ONE WEEK LEFT TILL MY DUE DATE!!!! yay!!) its harder for me to go out shopping for presents so i decided that making these little holiday jars as gifts would be a great creative outlet for me and it would be easier than trying to find a bunch of different gifts for people.  like i said it was really easy and fun to make. heres how to do it:

supplies you'll need:
-canning jar (they come in different sizes, but i like using the pint size)
-hot cocoa mix
-candy canes or peppermint candy
-chocolate chips (i prefer the mini ones cuz they are cuter, plus they melt better when you actually make the hot cocoa)
-marshmallows (again i prefer the mini ones, but you can use whatever you like)
-holiday sprinkles (optional; i found ones that taste like peppermint so i had to use them!)

1. crush the candy canes/peppermint candies until they are in small pieces (big enough to tell its peppermint, yet small enough so whoever you are giving it to doesn't choke on it when they put it in their drink)

2. fill the jars (after you wash and dry them) with the hot cocoa mix, crushed candy canes, chocolate chips, holiday sprinkles (if you used them), and marshmallows. you can really do any sort of layering you want, but i like the way the colors came out when i used this order. you can also use as much or as little of any ingredient as you want.

i think the colors are so festive and pretty! :)
3. seal the jars and decorate them how ever you like :) i used ribbon, a candy cane, and a gift tag that has the instructions/ingredients on the back
i just bought gift tags from the store and printed the instructions/ingredients on a label that i stuck to the back of the tag
so thats how you make these adorable holiday jars filled with a great drink for the holiday season! :)
